I don’t normally blog about cosmetics and beauty products but my wife recently started selling Beauty Control products and I thougth I would give her new website a little plug. Its still a work in progress, but she is quite proud of how it is coming along. Okay folks, Here is the second installment of my weekly Hidato Puzzle. There are at least 2 solutions to this one, see if you can find them both (there may be more too). (I put this one on a blue post-it to mix it up a little)

I read that these puzzles are supposed to have both the first and last number given – whoops, my bad for last week. Don’t worry, it won’t happen again.

I have a hard time believing the incompetence of the Chicago police force. How on earth is it possible for a 14 year old to successfully impersonate a police officer to the point where the precinct issued him an assignment and uniform. Are you kidding me?

After a 5 hour patrol he was finally discovered when officers noticed that he didn’t have an official star.

The teen has been charged with impersonating an officer and will be tried as a juvenile.

It seems that quite a few of my readers like Hidato puzzles. As a result, I have decided to try and add a weekly Hidato puzzle to the site every Friday. As I will create them on a post-it, I’ll call them it “Friday’s Post-it Kidato”.

Originally I thought about creating them electronically, but then was worried it would make this site seem too much like all the other sites out there. I am hoping that my scribbles onto a post-it note make things come across as a bit more whimsical and fun.

Feel free to leave a comment with your found solutions! Now here is our first puzzle, how many paths can you find?

Hidato Rules
The idea of Hidato is to connect all the given numbers with consecutive numbers. Numbers must be adjacent to each other and can connect either vertically, diagonally, or horizontally. All spaces in the grid must be complete – in this cases, #’s 1 through 16.

I washed my hands today in the kitchen sink and proceeded to dry them on a tea-towel hanging on the stove. I, like most people, do this often. Today I stopped to think – that tea towel is probably not very clean – I probably just made my hands “dirty” again.

I am not a germ-o-phobe so this didn’t bother me. I’ll probably do the same thing again later today – probably more than once, but it did get me thinking.

Which is better, paper or air? Let’s look at the two options, and the three main categories

Environment
I think this is probably the easiest one to answer, obviously the air dryers are best for the environment. I have done no formal studies, but I think the electricity generation required to power the hand dryers probably has less of an impact than the electricity and raw materials used to create the paper towel. Even if the paper towel is made with 100% recycled materials you still have to use electricity to turn those materials into paper, and then fossil fuels to ship that paper, and then you ultimately wind up with all this recyclable paper towel in the land fill.

Germs
I suspect paper towels are the more sanitary product here. Hand dryers; for the most part just blow the bathroom air full speed back at your hands, likely contaminating them all over again. If you’re using a hand dryer that filters and purifies the air, then I suspect that the hand dryer is the least germy choice, but only if your hands get 100% dry.

Functionality
The vast majority of air hand dryers I have used absolutely suck – that is till I tried the Dyson Airblade. I had seen many commercials and thought, hey, its just another hand dryer, then when waiting at a recently revamped BC Ferries terminal, I saw in their washrooms, they had the Airblade installed. I was pleasantly surprised to see my hands 100% dry in a matter of seconds. According to their website, they use a HEPA filtration system, so that makes it clean too.

As far as I am concerned, paper towel is my method of choice, unless the hand dryer is one that actually works.

What is this world coming to? I have to say that I simply do not understand.

A keyboard featuring the Klingon alphabet has gone on sale for £43.99 for all those die-hard star trek fans out there. The fake language was originally created back in 1984 for the Star Trek series and since then thousands of learnt to write and speak the strange non-existent language.

I have never been a Star Trek fan, so I just don’t get it, but if you are one, you may be interested in ordering this bizarre product. It has been made available here. It is available only with a PS2 connection – strange, USB has been around forever

When you are eating dinner and the phone rings, do you answer it? I know some people that don’t, but I for some reason, do – and in most cases will talk with the person, at least briefly, interrupting my dinner. The telephone interrupts my favorite TV programs, family time, work hours, and sleep. – it’s really a nuisance.

Sure I could unplug it, or turn off the ringer – but then how would people call me? I am learning to hate this device, but the reliance on it, and all technology has me hooked. I can’t even leave home without my cell phone – what if something happens, I have to have my phone with me. I hardly ever use our cell, but yet it follows me everywhere. What’s going on with this world? It’s almost like the telephone is a virus we can’t escape. When it rings I think, “Ah crap, who is it now.”

I am constantly checking my email, and spend probably half my life sitting in front of a computer or television. Sure I work on the computer, so that’s an easy 8 hours a day – but why must I watch TV, or use my laptop during my free time. I am sure that all this technology is causing mass tumors to grow in my brain.

My favorite part of vacations is that we often go to places without telephones. We’ll hit up Pacific Village in Tofino once a year – beach front cabins without TV’s, radios, or telephones. I leave my cell turned off, and watch in the car. Complete isolation from technology. Those vacations are the best times of my life. No email, no phone calls, no commercials telling me I need to call Sam. (That lawyer guy in Michigan – you know the jingle: “You can talk to Sam. 1-800-call Sam”. Grrr. Go away Sam Bernstein.).

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time to a land before all this dependence on technology – but then how would I watch Judge Judy?
