Hi Dave,

Thanks for your comment.

I see no reason why a water pump would go after 2 Years / 20,000k. I am no mechanic but I would say that it would have to either be a faulty part, or installed incorrectly. Its not like its a wear and tear item like your breaks or clutch that you could kill early on your own.

We haven't had the same issue with sales people. When we bought our Mazda 5, we went dealt with Mike (can't think of his last name). Didn't have any problems with him at all. I do though, to this day, regret not trying to get a better deal on the car. We paid sticker, but got about $500 in free credit for accessories (which were things we wanted to buy anyways). so effectively we got $500 off the sticker. I always wondered if we pushed if we could have done better, I suspect we could have, but I of course mostly blame myself for not trying harder, after all they certainly wont offer a bigger discount when they know they have made the sale.

Another thing that irked me a bit with them was scheduling for servicing. I would schedule the car in, arrive on time, and it would sit in the parking lot for easily a half hour to an hour before they would even get started. Often I would be stuck there for as long as 2 hours for an oil change! Sure they washed the car, but 2 hours just wasn't working for me, so I started taking it to the oil change place next to A&W - in and out in 15 to 20 min, and the cost was pretty much the same - Time is money!

I've had 2 incidents with Courtenay Mazda service and will never go there again. The first was with a loose console on my Mazda B3000, I took it to Courtenay Mazda and they said the console had to be replaced at a cost of $200 plus labor. I thought this to be a bit much and went to a friend's shop and borrowed a telescoping mirror to have a look inside the console. Turned out there was a loose hex nut which I tightened. Have had no problems with it since. There wasn't a damn thing wrong with the console.

The second was more recent - I had the timing belt done on my 626 a couple of years ago. At the time they said the water pump was leaking and should also be replaced, which I did. After getting an oil change at a fast lube place recently they noticed the valve seals were leaking, so I took it in to Courtenay Mazda to get this fixed. Surprise, surprise, while doing this work they said the water pump was leaking (2 years and 20,000 km since the previous one was replaced) and needed to be replaced again, which cost me an extra $200. I talked to the service manager about this and he was unable to explain why the water pump would need to be replaced again so soon but after humming and hawing he finally said that parts were only warranted for 1 year, tough luck.

I have also had some equally bad experiences with the salespeople at Courtenay Mazda.

Bottom line, I don't trust the service or sales departments at this dealership and will never set foot in it again.

Thanks for your comment. I totally agree with you. Our contract with Bell runs out in a month or so, and we are seriously considering switching. There customer service has turned out to be absolutely horrendous. Its hard though considering that both services have their major flaws.

When will a company come out that is actually worth while... never I bet.

After 12 years with Bell we are now switching to Shaw. I'm finally sick of Bell screwing up my bill & also the sheer cost of their packages.

If you ever have any problems with Bell DO NOT go to the "appropriate" department from their phone menu - go to "cancel your service", they are the only ones who possess a brain, actually listen to you & have the authorization to DO something including offering incentives to stop you canceling!

Bell tech support is a nightmare & usually starts in India then transfers to Toronto when the idiot in India finally accepts they cannot help! The Canadian ones aren't much better though. I spoke to one who was obviously working from home. I could hear the TV in the background & his wife yelling at their kid - very professional NOT! Also all of our the local tech guys say the support staff think they know more than the techs & rarely pass on correct information!

Then there's the cost of programming to get the channels you want which are bundled with an amazing array of crap. Over $100 a month for the garbage now on TV is beyond a joke.

Shaw new customer February promo in Atlantic Canada gets me a FREE HDPVR ($200 up front & $200 in programming credits = in effect I'm simply pre-paying the first 4 months) + $50 pay-per-view & all the channels I get from Bell for $42.99+tax per month for a year!! When I called to cancel Bell I was offered a free PVR + $15/month programming credit for a year - sorry guys not enough, I'm off ;-)

Conclusion:
Both companies have problems & it's about time they paid more attention to offering existing customers deals without being forced to do it to keep the customer!

Hmm... She was broke and it was her last resort? She didn't steal bread to feed her starving family. Cosmetics are hardly life and death.

It doesn't matter if the company stolen from can afford it. It doesn't make it okay to steal. I agree with the "fine" also - there has to be a deterrent to people, and a slap on the wrist is not good enough.

Shoplifting is a part of what drives overall prices up, and wages down. I don't want to pay more for my groceries because of these shoplifters are getting away with getting there things for free.

Lets say that this was her first offense. Do you think she would feel terrible about the whole "mistake" as you call it if she got away with it, or do you think she would get a rush and steal again? If she got away with it she would likely feel like she can do it again, and again, and again.

I am glad she regrets it, she should. Now perhaps she will be a better member to society. I agree that people make mistakes, but it doesn't change the fact that they need to still suck it up and take what comes along with it.

So the moral of the story is "You're damned if you do, damned if you don't."

Truth be told, the only reason we switched to Bell TV is VOD. ShawDirect has PPV, but you have to catch it at the right showtimes. Also, Bell PPV is less expensive.

I agree that sometimes the poor need help, but sadly most of the United States social programs have become corrupt vote buying schemes. I am not wealthy I have been a truck driver for 18 years but the owners of the little company I used to drive for were. They were two brothers who started out as drivers and after 10 years had a company employing 50 drivers and about 20 office workers. They made it to millionaire status, but they had worked hard for it. They had their toys, nice houses and cars but they paid their employees good. They donated money to charity and were active in community programs to help the less fortunate. Then the liberal congress got more and more involved with regulations and taxes to fund social programs. The first casualty was the charity donations that were actually helping people because they had to cut spending to try to keep their trucking company going. Next they had to cut costs so all bonuses us employees could earn went bye-bye costing us thousands. Finally sadly they had to declare bankruptcy and now there are 70 more poor people out of jobs. If the United States government keeps it up there will not be any rich people for them to tax.
